When I found out I was going to participate in the Habitat for Humanity Baptist Blitz in Louisiana, I encountered many of the apprehensions that one might expect: I had never been to Louisiana before, I would be working with people from all over the country, and I would be participating in a program that I had never worked with before. My group visited the Ninth Ward in New Orleans to survey for those whose houses had been damaged; for me, it was a traumatizing experience. There was so much damage to some homes, and others were damaged beyond repair. Still others had been completely demolished by the hurricane. However, when we arrived at the work cite, I felt a strong sense of hope. Although those houses had been destroyed, I would be working with other volunteers to help bring order to those people that had experienced chaos. For Doretha and her daughter, there is a reason to rejoice.
