Thoughts on the second day from American Baptist Churches Volunteers

About a month ago we noticed an article in our church bulletin about a Baptist Blitz happening in Baton Rouge, LA supported by Habitat for Humanity. We had always wanted to be involved and help others. We saw this as our golden opportunity to be of service in a really unique way. We approached Pastor Stewart and told him that we would like to have his blessings to go on this mission. To our delight, he then told us that several others had spoken about the project and that there would be seven others going as well.

We found all of the preplanning and materials had already been taken care of and all we had to do was show up and be prepared to utilize our skills and learn new ones.

Being here at the work site has been delightful as we met new people, made new friends, learned new skills and generally became involved in building and construction. Being able to meet the owners of the homes we were building made it even more special.
